    Description

    TRULY LOVELY
RARE VINTAGE SIGNED "MYSTIC BELLE" SHIP'S FIGUREHEAD
    NAUTICAL BOW BUST DECOR
This lovely maiden stands about 35" tall and 15" wide
    (almost life-size scale)
Protrudes from the wall giving her a three-dimensional appearance.
    Colors
    - Looks to have been hand painted. Lifelike carved wood appearance painted deep rich antique GOLD and BROWNS, with lady Belle showing half her female figure with “voluptuous” breasts. She is painted with light skin, red lips and dark brown hair.
A lot of attention to detail, notice the close-up of her deep-set and very detailed eyes, her brown ringlet curls, and mysterious smile.
Called "Mystic Belle" which might have been a ship's name.
She is Wearing a white bonnet with a lovely wreath with red flowers crowning her head, a red medallion necklace with a gold chain resting on her breast, and two-piece golden disc earrings grace her ears.
This ship's figurehead has the look and feel of real hand carved and painted wood, yet is light in weight, about 12 pounds.
It is sturdy and durable. Overall condition is sound, with minor paint loss and a noted crack that can be filled and repaired on the side of her head (see close-up 4th photo). The back does show the interior with the foam, however the detailing of the back of her head is still there.

    - ALFCO-NY (Artistic Latex Foam Company of NY. )
    Company History
    - The company is now out of business, but was in New Rochelle, New York, and were responsible for crafting resin-based home and restaurant decor like ship figurehead reproductions in the 1960's and 1970's. They sold the molds/models to the Formcraft Company of NY. but none of their painted models ever got close to the precise wood-imitation and hand painted realistic replicas of ALFCO-NY.
I purchased this lovely, realistic wood imitation work of art from a Decorator Magazine in 1969. It has adorned each of homes and received many compliments over the years.
